Cute Community Take Over Davenportbooks
December 11 - 7:00 pm - December 18 - 10:00 pm
For two weeks, Davenport Books takes over Bochum with a focus on English-language writing made in Germany. The pop-up celebrates writers, thinkers, and musicians for whom English is not a translation but a living space — a language of creation, encounter, and dissent.
The program unfolds across two public events:
• English as Disruption: A Different Mother Tongue — on how English unsettles Germany’s literary order and redefines
belonging. With a reading and discussion by Stella Nyanzi, live music by singer-songwriter Moyo Ray, and a DJ set by Transatlantic
Bounce.
• English as Dissent: A Second Language as Witness—on English as the language of recognition, refusal, and truth-telling. With a conversation between Peggy Kurka and Lubi Barre.
A special book curation by Davenport Books accompanies the takeover, inviting visitors to browse, read, and linger. Each shelf is
assembled to echo the larger question of the project — what it means to write, think, and dream in English from within Germany.
